WOOD FENCING

LUMBER TYPES & STYLES

Cedar or Pressure treated?

  • The 2 types of lumber available for fencing are cedar and brown pressure treated

  • Cedar is less prone to warping, cracking, and splitting but is more expensive

  • Pressure treated is more cost effective and is typically spruce with a brown treated appearance

  • The type of cedar that we use is red cedar. Red cedar is higher quality than white cedar but looks very similar

  • No material warranty because of the nature of using organic products

  •  Material life of 15 to 30 years depending on environmental conditions and installation method

  • Please ask one of our salesmen for more information

SOLID

Simple but beautiful, the Solid style provides privacy without breaking the bank! One side of the fence has only the vertical boards and top cap visible, while the other side has the horizontal 2x4 framing visible as well.

SOLID BOARD ON BOARD

This is the best style to choose if you want absolute privacy. the boards are staggered and layered so that even when the lumber shrinks, there won't be any tiny visible gaps. It also has an aesthetic appeal reminiscent of board and batten.

SANDWICH

This style of fence is the same as the solid style but it has 1x4 horizontal face boards which mirror the 2x4 framing on the opposite side of the panel. In other words, the fence looks almost the same on both sides.

BOARD ON BOARD

Also known as the "friendly neighbour" fence, Board On Board has boards staggered on either side of the fence panel. This allows some light and air to flow through. They will have a longer lifespan because wind flows through and prevents rot.
